The “Ripper” is an exercise in pure form and experimental design. It is a construction of geometric shapes – brought together in a way that provides cohesiveness to its various elements. Because the bike needed certain mechanical features in a preordained location - much thought went into the question of how the varied design aspects would work together. The “Ripper” (like other Kamilos creations) prods the viewer to consider bike design in an alternative way.

Design aspects in this bike are not so much about California “kustom”, as they are about 20th century constructivist sculpture. In this sense the “Ripper” is much more concerned with line and space (within the forms) and function as an equal partner.  This creation is very much a work of modern sculpture - with its bicycle aspects peeking out from within the assemblage.

In a sculptural sense the Ripper has sought to overcome the limitations of classic bike design. New visual forms were laid out over standard pedaling geometry - so as not detract from the bike’s operational capabilities. It is all about the starting point, and clearly “Ripper” begins from a different set of influences than most other kustom bikes. Equilibrium and visual balance were primary concerns, and potential problems were worked out beforehand with 3D computer imaging. Balance was achieved by matching the visual weight of the various design elements, in order to improve on the overall aesthetic.

The Ripper comes from a different place than most of us are familiar with, and its alternative view of what constitutes visual success is striking. This bike reveals that unexplored paths of design could be waiting out there for those willing to seek it out. “Ripper” stands apart because it dares to look beyond the common place and into a world of uncharted waters.
