Take one of the world’s most coveted cruiser frames, ad some radical modifications and updates and you have the “Basmania” kustom cruiser.  This bike has real presence. It would have been easy to set this ride up with ordinary components, but it’s obvious that the owner Marcel was looking for something far beyond the norm.

The rear end features something that has rarely been attempted on a kustom bike; the rear wheel features two rims laced side by side onto one hub!  The effect is striking and powerful.  The rear hub is the widest multi gear hub commercially available – a Sturmey Archer 3 speed originally made for use with 4 inch wide rims. The spoke count has been doubled, and the two 45mm rims have been secured to each other by way of machined connectors. The tires are ribbed 346 models that measure in at 26x2.3. Gear actuation is accomplished with a Sturmey shift lever mounted comfortably to the centre portion of the frame.

On the front of this bike is a most unusual leading link suspension fork; modified for use on this machine it originally came off of a Sachs Hercules motor bike.  It is coupled to a wide 24x4 front wheel with a disc brake set up for maximum stopping power. To match the rear a 24x3 ribbed tire (from 346) was chosen for the front, and it amply fills out the look of the forward section.

This is a Basman with strong visual features imparting a radical stance to its look. The paint scheme is a bright Arctic white which flows well with the black accents and wheels. Rounding it all out is a simple thing –“drag bars” for handlebars. This final addition keeps the bike low and powerful looking.  To sum it up, this bike is one of this year’s most visually striking contenders, and should prove itself ably in competition.
