On first glance “Fat Narander” appears familiar, but, for those attuned to the nuances of real hand made components, the bike comes alive with wonderful examples of kustom fabrication. The dusty blue frame is the first thing you notice, all hand fabricated to conform to the riders needs. It does show a vague resemblance to some frames done by other custom builders, but differs enough so that a knowing eye can recognize its uniqueness; the most beautiful aspect here is the hand twisted accents that form sections of the frame - and shifter rod. The steer tube position is low, while the upper frame tube rises up behind it - this gives the impression of greater flow and size. Having such a low head-tube allows for the use of a stock length fork. The style of the fork is essentially a knee action girder, functionally reminiscent of those found on early motorcycles. The fork legs are made from small diameter tubing, which helps keep the visual weight of the bike down to a comfortable level. It would have been counterproductive to buy a ready-made fork for this bike, and thank goodness this didn’t happen. Nothing can approach the look of a specialized component - created by one’s own hands – essentially this entire bike exhibits an individual vision. |
