NCIS Turku 2011
27 June 2011 - Turku (Wazzup) - Pick up at Turku airport was one to remember, Mitja and Ari waiting at the gate. And outside stood Ari's lowrider. Now that's a great pick up from the airport, while being photographed by other arriving passengers we glide into the deserted streets of Turku. Midsummer means for most Fins going to their cottage near the sea or lake...a national holiday, believe it or not but even McDonalds is closed. So hardly any traffic while cruisin to meet up with the rest waiting at one of the eleven restaurant boats.
A evening and night filled with beers in sunshine...it's so easy to loose the track of time when it doesn't get dark.
The next day was the NCIS...with best bike competition in a small but nice area behind a brewery and cruise with 3 bar stops...here is where we found out about the 1952 Helsinki olympics official doping. Lonkero, grapefruit juice with gin. Great drink after all the beers from last night. The cruise ended at one of the restaurant boats for another Finnish suprise,frozen roastii...some kind of tosti but then frozen roastii, warm when heated for a second time a tastefull snack.
Sunday program "slow cruise to the BBQ spot for some great acid rain free burgers at one of the so many wonderfull locations". Turku once the capital of Finland has some great spots for those into old churches, castles, historical places and cultural in general....after the group photo at the castle we cruised to the picknick place near a dam in a river. On one side of the dam was a construction of pools for salmon and other fish to continue their track up river. The burgers were great by the way !! After the burgers it's time to say goodbye. The Helsinki crew starts the head back to Helsinki....and Pottz, international Chopadero of 2011 to Paris. Sane who left a few hours earlier as representative of the Euro nomads missed the great burgers.
